The Binghman Canyon Mine, or Kennecott Copper Mine, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a massive copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah. This mine is located in the Oquirrh Mountains and is the deepest open-pit mine in the world. The Bingham Mine site began production in 1906 and is currently .75 miles deep and 2.5 miles wide, covering over 1900 acres.
